Colors of houses in Gotland

ゴットランドにある家がカラフルなのはなぜでしょうか。
特に古い城壁のそばにある家々がさまざまな色に塗られているようです。

I wonder why the houses in Gotland are so colorful.
Especially, those houses near the old castle wall seems like to be painted with various colors.
